Spirit of Race’s Rui Aguas set the fastest time of the weekend so far in this morning’s final practice session at Chang International Circuit ahead of this afternoon’s all-important qualifying sessions.

The Portuguese driver set his best of 1m33.662s - a tenth up on yesterday’s benchmark - before the 30-minute session was halted halfway through to recover the Milestone Racing Audi. And that time would remain fast enough to retain top spot once track action resumed with seven minutes left.

The #38 Ferrari led a 488 one-two-three at the top of the times, which featured Anthony Liu in second and yesterday’s pace-setter Max Wiser in third. Liu, who won the championship’s second race at Sepang last month, improved dramatically in the closing stages to end up 0.273s adrift of Aguas.

Wiser was less than half-a-tenth further back in third and only 0.003s faster than GruppeM Racing’s #999 Mercedes-AMG, which was repaired overnight after suffering rear-end damage during yesterday’s second practice session.

Alex Yoong and Alex Au’s Audi R8 LMS GT3 was first of the Audi contingent in fifth, albeit just 0.030s shy of the Mercedes-AMG. Elsewhere, Carlo van Dam produced another excellent lap to place his Singha Motorsport Team Thailand Ferrari 458 sixth ahead of Marchy Lee and Shaun Thong’s Audi Hong Kong R8, and the VSR Lamborghini driven by home favourite Sandy Stuvik.

KCMG’s Naoto Takeda and Takuya Shirasaka were the fastest Am Cup pairing in 16th overall, while Frank Yu and Jean Marc Merlin’s Craft-Bamboo Racing Porsche topped the GT4 times by almost nine tenths.

Qualifying gets underway at 11:50 local time later today ahead of this weekend’s first 60-minute race at 15:20. Watch both live on Blancpain GT Series Asia’s Facebook page and website, and SRO’s GT World Youtube channel.
